New Moon aka The Twilight Saga: New Moon

New Moon (also known as The Twilight Saga: New Moon) is an upcoming romantic-fantasy film scheduled for release on November 20, 2009.

It is based on the novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer and is the sequel to 2008's Twilight, which is based on Meyer's previous novel. Directed by Chris Weitz, the film will star Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, reprising their roles as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black, respectively.

Melissa Rosenberg returns as the screenwriter for the film. She handed in a draft of the film script during the opening weekend of Twilight. Summit Entertainment greenlit the sequel in late November 2008, following the early success of Twilight.

Premise
When asked about the sequel, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke stated, "It's got werewolves, it's got visual effects that turn people into werewolves, it's got motorcycle stunts, you go to Italy. It's probably twice as much as this [to film]."

On December 13, 2008, Summit Entertainment released a synopsis of New Moon, which states: "Bella Swan is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen, but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black. Suddenly she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and finds her loyalties tested."

Development
In early November 2008, Summit announced that they had attained the rights to the remaining books in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series: New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn.

On November 22, 2008, one day after the theatrical release of Twilight, Summit confirmed that they would begin working on New Moon. "I don't think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment," said Meyer. "I'm thrilled to have the chance to work with them again on New Moon."

Melissa Rosenberg had been working on adapting the novel prior to Twilight's release, and handed in the draft for New Moon during Twilight's opening weekend in November 2008.

The extraordinary world that Stephenie has created has millions of fans, and it will be my duty to protect on their behalf the characters, themes and story they love. This is not a task to be taken lightly, and I will put every effort into realizing a beautiful film to stand alongside a beautiful book —Chris Weitz, director of New Moon

In early December 2008, it was announced that Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke would not be returning to direct the sequel. Hardwicke cited time restrictions as the reason behind her leaving the project, saying, "I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct New Moon.

Directing Twilight has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel—it is a great story." On December 13, 2008, it was announced that Chris Weitz, director and writer of The Golden Compass and co-director of American Pie, had been hired to direct New Moon.

Regarding being chosen for the project, Weitz said, "I am honored to have been entrusted with shepherding New Moon from the page to the screen." star Kristen Stewart spoke positively of the new director, saying, "Chris is like the most genuinely invested guy—he didn't just jump on the bandwagon and be like, 'Ooh, let's get the biggest, most successful movie! I wanna do Twilight 2!' He genuinely likes it, and is entirely involved."

Meyer also spoke on his behalf, saying, "I am very pleased to announce that he's agreed to be a part of our Twilight world. I've had the chance to talk to Chris, and I can tell you that he is excited by the story and eager to keep the movie as close to the book as possible."

Casting
Due to major physical changes that occur in the character of Jacob Black between Twilight and New Moon, Weitz considered replacing Taylor Lautner in the sequel with an actor who could more accurately portray "the new, larger Jacob Black."

In an attempt to keep the role, Lautner stated, "I have been working out. I've been working out since the day we finished filming Twilight. I just weighed myself today; I've put on 19 pounds. I'm guaranteeing Weitz 10 more [pounds] by filming."

In January 2009, Weitz and Summit Entertainment announced that Lautner would continue to play the role of Jacob in New Moon, with Weitz saying, "I'm very happy that Taylor will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit, the producers and Stephenie Meyer. [...] [It] was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part."

In a recent interview, fellow cast member Kristen Stewart talked about Lautner's transformation saying, "He's an entirely different person physically."

In late March 2009, Summit Entertainment released a list of the actors who would be portraying the "wolf pack" alongside Lautner. The casting for the rest of the Quileute tribe was headed by casting director Rene Haynes, who has worked on films with large Native American casts, such as Dances with Wolves and Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. A casting call was also held in Vancouver in February 2009, specifically asking for "any first nations/aboriginal actors and actresses between the ages of 15 and 25".

Talking about the casting of Michael Sheen, director Chris Weitz claims to have "'aggressively' pursued the actor", and describes the character as "on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat."

It has also been revealed that Jamie-Campbell Bower will begin shooting his scenes in June 2009. About being cast as Caius, he said, "I hadn't read the books before. But [the Twilight series is] a great thing to be a part of..."

Filming
Pre-production for New Moon was started in December 2008. Filming was scheduled to begin on March 23, 2009 in Vancouver, but began a few days early. David Thompson Secondary School served as the location for the high school scenes in the movie. Filming in Montepulciano, Italy began in late May 2009.

Music
he score for New Moon is being composed by Alexandre Desplat. He replaces Carter Burwell, who wrote the score for the previous film, Twilight. New Moon director Chris Weitz has a working relationship with Desplat, who scored one of his previous films, The Golden Compass. The band Paramore, who had two songs on the Twilight soundtrack, will not be contributing to the soundtrack for New Moon.

Personal Quotes

Up until I was 12 my sisters used to dress me up as a girl and introduce me as 'Claudia'! Twelve was a turning point as I moved to a mixed school and then I became cool and discovered hair gel.

It's strange, somebody asked for my autograph the other day. Because I finished school and I'm not really doing anything at the moment, I was just kind of aimlessly wandering around London and these two guys who were about 30 came up and asked for my autograph. I was really quite proud at the time, and they wanted to take photos and stuff. And then they were sort of wandering around and I was kind of wandering around and I bumped into them about three times, and every single time their respect for me kept growing and growing and growing.

They [Barnes Theatre Club] were a very good group, and for some reason when I finished the backstage thing, I just decided to that I should try to act. So I auditioned for Guys and Dolls and got a little tiny part as some Cuban dancer or something and then in the next play I got the lead part, and then I got my agent. So I owe everything to that little club.

I aspire to be Jack Nicholson. I love his every single mannerism. I used to try and be him in virtually everything I did, I don't know why. I watched One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) when I was about 13, and I dressed like him. I tried to do his accent. I did everything like him. I think it kind of stuck with me.

The day before [the Harry Potter London premiere] I was just sitting in Leicester Square, happily being ignored by everyone. Then suddenly strangers are screaming your name. Amazing.

I went to one of these signing conventions. [in '06] It was one of the most interesting experiences I've had. It was so strange that people would pay for autographs. You keep thinking you should do a little dance for them as well or something.

I have been playing the piano for my entire life - since I was three or four. And the guitar - I used to play classical guitar from when I was about five to 12 years of age. Then I didn't play guitar for like years. About four or five years ago, I got out the guitar again and just started playing blues and stuff. I am not very good at the guitar, but I am all right. I am in a band in London as well.

My favorite teacher was probably my English teacher because she got me into writing instead of just answering the question. I used to hand in homework with 20 pages of nonsense and she'd still mark it. She was a really amazing teacher.

I didn't want to get stuck in pretty, public school roles, or I knew I'd end up as some sort of caricature. Playing Dali has been a complete turning point for me. It's the first part I've had that has required really serious thought. I became completely obsessed with Dali during the filming, and I read every biography I could get a hold of. He was the most bizarre, complex man, but in the end I felt I could relate to him. He was basically incredibly shy.

I wasn't at all focused on school, and I didn't achieve much. But I've got a sense of urgency now. I feel I can't let any more time waste away.

Twilight (2008/I) is a metaphor for the virtues of chastity, but it's had the opposite effect. I get letters that say "I'm going to kill myself if you don't watch High School Musical 2 (2007) (TV) with me". It's a little nuts.

Everything has become more intense for six months, since 'Twilight' was released. It's hard to handle what's happening to me. I don't have the necessary hindsight, even if only to find a way out to this situation. But this celebrity thing, you can't fight it, it's useless, you can't avoid it. When it's not something you desired during your whole life, or something you don't aspire to, you're free not to care about it. I didn't sign for Disney. There's not a stipulation which forces me to smile to the paparazzi.

Personal Quotes

On working on the film Panic Room (2002) with such a big name star as Jodie Foster: "When I got "Panic Room", I'm like, 'Oh my God that's huge! It's bigger than huge'. I was kind of freaked out at first".

(about her love for acting) I love it because I love to tell stories. I like being in movies that have a great story. I'm not so interested in being a Hollywood star. It's a job, you know. When you wake up at six in the morning every day for a week, it feels like hard work.

I don't want to make movies for kids, and I don't want to make movies for adults either.

Acting is such a personal thing, which is weird because at the same time it's not. It's for the consumption of other people. But in terms of creative outlets and expressing yourself, it's just the most extreme version of that that I've ever found. It's like running, it's exertion. When you reach that point where you can't go anymore and you stop and you take a breath, it's that same sort of clearing of the mind.

A lot of actors think that what we do is so important, like we're saving people's lives or something.

All I try to do in the press is be honest about something that I really care about.

I've always had an aversion to looking sexy, but I've grown out of it.

Twilight Dominates 2009 MTV Movie Awards

Source: MTV

MTV handed out the 2009 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night and here is the channel's press release about the event:

The "2009 MTV Movie Awards" proved to be a comedy-filled night as host Andy Samberg welcomed a variety of his celebrity friends including Justin Timberlake and Will Ferrell to collaborate on ingenious short films and controversial and unexpected moments.

This year, viewers truly took matters into their own hands, led by fans of Twilight, who banded together throughout the voting period to put their favorite film into its rightful place in Movie Awards history. The film took home five golden popcorn statues and received a huge majority of the record breaking votes submitted this year online and via text message.

Eminem stormed out in a heated rage after Bruno put him into a compromising position by landing face down into the rapper's lap.

The MTV audience was treated to exclusive first looks at the highly anticipated movie releases of 2009 including The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and Public Enemies.

Twilight dominated the ceremony, taking home the top honors for "Best Movie" at the conclusion of the night. Robert Pattinson won three statues for "Breakthrough Performance Male," "Best Kiss" with co-star Kristen Stewart and "Best Fight" with Cam Gigandet. Kristen Stewart also won for "Best Female Performance." High School Musical 3: Senior Year grabbed two awards as Ashley Tisdale won "Breakthrough Performance Female" and Zac Efron won "Best Male Performance." Jim Carrey can add to his collection of statues after earning "Best Comedic Performance" for his role in Yes Man. Miley Cyrus earned her first golden popcorn statue for "Best Song From A Movie" for "The Climb." Amy Poehler captured "Best WTF Moment" for her unforgettable scene in Baby Mama, and "Best Villain" went to the legendary performance Heath Ledger displayed in The Dark Knight.

The show got off to a hilarious start as Andy Samberg took fans through a parody of some of this year's favorite films including Slumdog Millionaire, Twilight, The Reader and Star Trek. Andy's wild journey included a cameo by Taylor Swift and ended with him naked in the back of a limo next to Justin Timberlake. Finally arriving onstage in time to open the show, Andy got the crowd hyped up with the help of Mixmaster Mike.

Dressed to the nines and backed by a 20 piece orchestra, Academy Award® winner Forest Whitaker, Grammy Award® winner LeAnn Rimes and multi-platinum recording artist Chris Isaak paid respect to Andy and his incredibly vibrant musical career as they serenaded the crowd with a classical arrangement of "Jizz In My Pants," "I'm On A Boat," "Lazy Sunday," "Dick In A Box" and "Motherlover." The talented trio earned a standing ovation as they turned these edgy hits into an operatic masterpiece.

Zac Efron, Kiefer Sutherland and Triumph the Insult Dog presented former MTV Movie Awards host Ben Stiller with the "MTV Generation Award" for his dynamic career and entertainment of MTV audiences over the years. The honorees began with lofty praises reminiscent of this year's Oscars®, but the tribute awkwardly turned into a no-holds-barred roast when Sutherland broke down sobbing and Triumph started taking jabs at Stiller.

Joined onstage by a New Orleans style brass ensemble and a hypeman, Eminem made a triumphant return to the MTV stage as he performed his latest singles "We Made You" and "Crack A Bottle" from his #1 album Relapse. Kings of Leon made their first-ever live appearance on MTV, performing their rock anthem "Use Somebody" off their Only by the Night album.

In true MTV Movie Awards fashion, the night was filled with laugh-out-loud parodies including the "Explosion" music video starring Andy "Bruce Springsteen" Samberg, Will "Neil Diamond" Ferrell and triple threat writer, director, producer JJ Abrams "as himself" on keyboards. Needless to say it left viewers with a whole new notion of Hollywood's tough guys walking away from mega-movie explosions.

Always looking to break the mold when it comes to award shows, MTV teamed up with Orbit® gum to perform a first-of-its-kind live commercial pod takeover featuring Hayden Panetierre and Big Pak, who presented Amy Poehler with the "Best WTF Moment" award.

The "2009 MTV Movie Awards" welcomed the top names in Hollywood, music and TV throughout the night as the list of superstar presenters included Denzel Washington, Cameron Diaz, Will Ferrell, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Kiefer Sutherland, Bruno, Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Sandra Bullock, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Hayden Panetierre, Sienna Miller, Jonah Hill, Lil Wayne, Chris Pine, Anna Faris, Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Michael Bay, Ryan Reynolds, Leighton Meester, Taraji P. Henson, Rupert Grint, Ed Helms, Danny McBride, Justin Bartha, Sofia Vassilieva, Mixmaster Mike and Triumph The Insult Dog.
